If you're after overpriced bars, head to Cannery Row. Really, if you're after women, just stick to Alvarado street. But the 40+ year old women seem to be drawn here. If you sit outside, you're bound to run into a table of women and can easily strike up conversations.Ĭhibo's - Another place I can't stand. I hate this place, but I have lots of friends (especially females) who prefer it.Ĭrown & Anchor - Also crowded and loud, but I don't mind drinking here. Some notable fun dives include Segovia's, Carbones and the Shadowbox (The karaoke here is hilarious).Īs much as I'd like to meet more women, the bars with the most women tend to be the ones I hate. ![]() I'd order some crabcakes and ask the bartender to make me whatever she felt like making. This is as close to "craft cocktail" as you'll get in Monterey.Īwe Shucks - This place used to have great bartenders (haven't been there in a while), affordable food and a mixed crowd. ![]() The bartenders/managers seem interested in making good drinks and I love sitting in the library or outdoor by the firepits. Great place to bring a crowd.ġ833 - Pricey (but not overpriced for what you get). Very large open space, cheap, and friendly bartenders. If you're a beer fan, you'll love it.ĭuffy's - Off the beaten path and mostly DLI folks but very low key and a great owner. The crowd varies widely and everybody is very friendly. Post No Bills - This place seems to have the highest liveliness/douchiness ratio of any place I've seen in the area. ![]() The crowd is mostly locals and it's a great place to strike up interesting conversations. Here's my favorites:Īlfredo's - About as divey as you're gonna get (which is not very) in downtown Monterey, but in a good way. I've lived in Monterey about 6 years now and being single, I used to hit up quite a few bars. Also! Post No Bills in sand city is having a reddit meet up right now, they have 100's off beers and are playing cards against humanity. Other than that, head to cannery row for the same number and selection of bars, with two standouts Cannery Row Brewing Co has a TON of beers and good food, and Segovias being the best dive bar. All those are within 3 blocks of each other on/near Alvarado st. My Attic is where you meet up and have an old fashioned, Cibos is older and expensive with jazz music, Turn 12 is new, clean, automotive themed and off the path so quiet/no dancing, Characters is a sports bar, Peter B's brews it's on beers, Indian Summer does hookah outdoors. Lala Palooza is classy and martinis, the Mucky Duck is dark and loud with shots and beer and good food, the Britannia Arms is hot and loud and dark smelly, the Crown and Anchor is nicely decorated, with good food and friendly staff, but no dancing/no girls. In Monterey proper, head to Alvarado street. For an elegant evening of cocktails and jazz, a custom private party, a special group event or quiet dinner for two, Cibo will accommodate.Ĭibo has been a favorite of locals and visitors alike since 1990.All the bars have a very distinct vibe. Cordials as well as traditional and creative cocktails are available to complement your dining experience. ![]() Hand-selected from the finest Italian and California vintages, Cibo presents an extensive range of wines to enable the perfect pairing with your dinner. Fusing the best of old and new world Italian cuisine, Cibo offers an eclectic menu from gourmet pizzas to multi-course dinners. An intimate yet vibrant atmosphere is accentuated with expressive art in the form of photography, paintings, sculpture, hand-blown glass and live jazz. ✻ Experience a renaissance in music, art and fine Italian cuisine at CiboĬibo (pronounced chee-bo) means food in Italian, but it’s more of a feast for the senses.
